| The multi-species conservation program was formed by representatives of the three states along the lower Colorado River because of concerns about the reliability of water (Arizona, California and Nevada) and power resources following designation of critical habitat for four endangered fish species in the Colorado River Basin. The 50-year Program is estimated to cost over $600 million and is now managed by the Bureau of Reclamation. It consists of a partnership of 25 state, federal, tribal and private members. The partnership works toward the recovery of listed species through habitat and species conservation, and attempts to reduce the likelihood of additional species listing under the Endangered Species Act. The Program also accommodates current water diversions and power production and optimizes opportunities for future water and power development. EcoPlan has been involved since the program’s inception in 1994 and provides technical and policy-level advice and support to one of the Program’s founding members. |
